Welsh Golf Club of the Year
In 2009 Glyn Abbey was awarded the prestigious title of Golf Club of the Year by the Golf Union of Wales.
The award was made at the Ryder Cup Year To Go Dinner at the Celtic Manor in front of no less than Ryder Cup Captains Corey Pavin and Colin Montgomery and was presented to the duet of the Managing Director of the Business and the Captain of the Club, recognising the partnership that was a fundamental to the award.
The Management had, over the preceding 10 years, brought about huge changes to the facilities, from the construction and subsequent extensions of the Clubhouse to the development of a driving range and a 9 hole par 3 course, alongside a transformation of the condition of the main golf course. The Club had, over the same period, grown from 73 to 400 Members, developed a Junior section that won the Dyfed Order of Merit from just one player, formed all its various sections and teams and went on to numerous achievements in every section.
There was no single standout factor in the award, rather a constant theme of moving forward, working together and serving golf and the community. This remains very much the case today.
Glyn Abbey is a small club which plays a big role. Proud of our heritage and culture we have kept true to our mission to provide golf which is both affordable and of a high standard to everyone. Whilst the award was made a number of years ago now, it remains always relevant to the present day and symbolises what we are.
